Tech giant Apple has today announced that it is powered by 100% renewable energy around the globe.
What exactly does this mean? It means that Apple’s worldwide facilities are now powered solely by renewable energy. Although this does not include its 23 manufacturers and suppliers, they have also committed to reaching the same high standards. In areas where sourcing solely-renewable energy is not yet possible (the locations of some suppliers in China for example) Apple is offsetting by way of RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates), investing in clean energy worldwide and constantly seeking ways to both build and fund its own clean energy facilities and projects.
Apple are also designing new facilities to run on 100% clean energy. Their newest facility Apple Park in California, US, is powered by 100% renewable energy from a variety of sources with any excess energy produced going back in to the public grid for re-use.
This latest milestone proves that Apple is leading the way for green energy in the global tech industry, showing that it is both an achievable and necessary goal to help combat climate change and preserve our planet for future generations.
